Jesus fuck, I've been avoiding those files, up until last night. Thought it was xvid/divx only etc.

  • 2 things;

    1) Does the 360 play MKV files?

    2) Super Hang On shits all over Shinobi. Trufax etc.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so. You may need something like PS3 Media Server to help.

    I just use this now...

  • Convert them to .avi files with mkv2vob.  I think that's what it's called.

afaik not natively but it will play them if they're on a PC and you stream them. You don't need to use specialist software, sharing the library from WMP will do it.
  • Will give it a go tonight, the PS3'll only stream AVI's so if the 360 streams MKV's that'll be a bonus, can't be arsed coverting them (thanks for the suggestion though).

To the pain, not to the death, tsk.
  • I use tversity on the xb and it won't stream mkv's so I was avoiding x264 but the smaller ones are mp4's which are a ok.

First to get this loves Shinobi the most.

think my xvox is giving up the ghost. Number 2, had a good innings (2008 I think). Scratches discs like a fuckwang and now the output on vga is fecked. Thing is, the vga cable's the only thing that allows me to output audio via optical. Or is there another way? Could stick an hdmi in there but would lose the audio. Maybe risk a vga cable, see if that's the problem. Don't wanna buy another machine just for 1 year.

There's an optical out dongle if you're using HDMI

VGA cables are notoriously shite for dodgy connections, especially if it's a 3rd party one.
  • Ouchy, I'm guessing the free fix period is well and truly over. Do they bother repairing them anymore for a fee or just bung you along a refurbed Slim?

  • I want to watch iPlayer etc.  If I pay for one of these "use our DNS" services, then just stick the DNS servers in the Xbox's network config page, will that work?
  • Apparently yup.
    someone posted tunlr:

It says on their FAQS page that you can access iPlayer from outside the UK and its free.

  • Buy a 4gig slim, crack open your harddrive and stick it in. All good.
You can get a caddy to make sure the hdd fits snug for about £3 on eBay.

  • You can just redownload your Xblah purches, is what I did when I got a 360 again.
  • I had no problems with XBL stuff. There's two casings that need to be opened you need torx(?) and philips screwdrivers I think. If you don't have them you could prob squeeze a flat head in and literally crack it but I'd be worried off breaking the hdd.

  • Look it up on YouTube,it's very easy. Even you could do it!! :)

Wow; that bit in bold is particularly impressive!

Only snag I can see is that I'm happy with a US DNS for Netflix etc, but I need a British one for iPlayer et al.  I wonder if it's smart enough to handle both situations?

    Nope.

Swapping between the two DNS settings doesn't take more than a couple of clicks though.

Alternatively you could use one machine or PC for UK content and the other for US. Tunlr works on PS3  for example.

They said I should still be able to access the US Netflix library.  I'm not sure at all how that works, unless their system is designed specifically to make it look like you're in the US for Netflix/Hulu/etc, and the UK for iPlayer, 4OD etc.

They implied the only thing that works on the 360 is Netflix anyway, so I'd be limited to iPlayer through the iMac.  Can you download from iPlayer, in an easy, convenient way?

If you can access it then yeah, there's the iPlayer Desktop download system.

30 days to start watching a program before it expires, 7 days to finish watching it once you start before it expires.

Works really well actually, I used it on my old PC that wasn't very happy playing streamed HD stuff full screen.

You can HDMI out it to your TV as well. Or at least my PC lets me.
