I used to worry about deleting people but periodically I delete anyone that's not been on line for more than 2 months. Harsh but fair.
  • Yeah, I do that, or when I forget who they are from here.  I'm down to 94 now.

Which means adored doesn't like me.

    I thought you deleted me?

If I deleted you it can only be because you'd not been online for ages.

I've still got you on my list and remember fondly the thrashings you handed out on Virtua Tennis 3 (4? World Tour?) ah those were innocent days

No more Dan and Andy. Cheer/Cry as appropriate.
  • Thats a bit disappointing, I quite liked those shows they did.
At least they seemed to be genuinely interested in games and often displayed a knowledge of games that went beyond this gen (though I concede those references could've just been written in by a genuine enthusiast). I also liked the low-fi approach and the way they knew that and played upon it and they quite often did drop some info on upcoming titles that I hadn't heard anywhere else.
I suppose we will get more of that nasally voiced Chobot woman in her tight t-shirts instead.

  • It's a shame that they've got rid of them as at least they used to bring bit of an identity to the whole shiny affair.

Can't quantify Chobot either. I think she is supposed to be really attractive but I just don't get it.
  • I agree on the identity thing, it sort of harked back to the bedroom nature of the game industry that I grew up with (a bit like that show that those Scottish guys used to do).
I compared it once on the old-rum to the PS3 version of the same show, it had a green screened studio with flashy CGI intros and stings between the news pieces, it was also fronted by some obviously targeted at young males asian girl with no presenting talent and, I suspect, no interest in the industry at all.
It all felt so stale and cynical compared to the fumbling and shiteness of Inside Xbox.

I'm quite narked really. Partly because I did actually enjoy watching their shows and partly because it was one of the reasons I didn't mind paying for Live subs.

Surely it didn't cost that much to produce each week? Then again I suppose it wasn't especially fair on the users in other countries that paid the same as us but got no extra content. Hopefully MS will put the money to good use on other content.

They never did answer my "Have either of you ever considered growing a beard?" question.
  • Need a little help on the 360 front. Last night people could barely hear me speak as the sound was dropping in and out constantly. I originally thought it was a headset problem but just tested that this happens with both my headsets, whereas if I record a voice message neither of the headsets suffer from drop outs. I'm guessing it's some sort of network problem then?

  • Sounds like it. Have you checked your NAT settings? Do a network test, if you get a message it'll be self explanatory. If you don't, you will have open and NAT which means I can't help you son.

Yeah, I checked NAT first after you mentioned it the other night. I've forwarded all the ports the 360 uses in a vague hope that will work.

  • DotW is a load of shitey Tom Clancy stuff for HAWX, Ghost Recon: AW2 and EndWar. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is 800 points down from 1200. These weekly 'deals' have been rather lame of late.

The following have all received permanent price reductions:

    Arcade Games

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet - was 1200 MSP now 800 MSP
Toy Soldiers - was 1200 MSP now 800 MSP

    Game Add-ons

    Hasbro Family Game Night
    • "Battleship - Full Game" - 400 MSP
    • "Boggle - Full Game" - 400 MSP
    • "Connect 4 - Full Game" - 400 MSP
    • "Connect 4x4" - 400 MSP
    • "Jenga" - 400 MSP
    • "Pictureka" - 400 MSP
    • "Scrabble - Full Game" - 400 MSP (North America only)
    • "Sorry! - Full Game" - 400 MSP
    • "Sorry! Sliders - Full Game" - 400 MSP
    • "Yahtzee - Full Game" - 400 MSP

All Hasbro games have received these cuts as EA have now switched the servers off so they are worthless from an MP point of view.

Games on Demand - prices vary per region

    Fighters Uncaged
    LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean

This weeks WP7 release is Feed Me Oil - £0.79

WP7 DotW is Pocket God - was £2.29 now £1.49

  • So, my live rewards thing is working  (Mod, only realised after signing up that you could have referred me for 100 points), does it only register things you sign up for via the webiste, or does it sync everything you buy direct from the 360 as well?

It all just syncs up automagically.

There is a survey you can do on the site once a month 20 points.

The rewards aren't massive but as they're essentially zero effort to earn it's a nice bonus now and then. I've had nearly £17 quids worth of points out of them so far.

Speculation on the Bombcast that this $99+monthly contract Xbox is a trial run to gauge interest and if successful could be the (a) model for the next Xbox.

It would certainly be a way to make a £400 machine more affordable up front. Would any of you go for it? Say £199 machine with £10pm 2 year Live contract.
  • I can believe that MS are trying it. Seems incredibly optimistic of them after the balls up they've made launching their last two consoles though. I wouldn't want to be stuck in this model if either situation was repeated.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. MS would probably rather the "interest" went to them than Grattan or Brighthouse or Barclaycard.

I dunno, I've always waited for the first price drop before buying the last two gens, I can't see me doing that next time.

I don't like the sound of it. It's like buying something on credit.

I'm day one regardless, so if that's the only way they're playing it...

If it works out even slightly more expensive then I'd rather buy the thing outright though. And I've gone long stretches without LIVE with my 360 for various reasons and it would irk if I way paying for services I wasn't using.

    Would prefer the option.

  • The other possibility is that mobile phone pricing is to get them into mobile phone shops. They probably aren't going to expand their own shops enough to sell significant numbers. Selling at phone shops might give them the option to break from the specialist game retailers - anti-second hand measures doesn't seem that likely, selling new games as a digital download on launch day at the same or less than retail is beginning to look necessary.

What I don't understand is this; everyone, and I mean everyone, who'd happily queue up at midnight to drop £400/$500 on a new machine, is the sort of person who'll already be paying £10 a month for XBL and will continue to do so.

If you offer these people a subscription where they're tied into Live for 2 years rather than paying monthly, then you're effectively just giving them £200 off a machine that they'd pay £400 anyway.

It seems to me that this is the perfect way to get a PS2-style massive userbase for your lower-end machine, before pouring it full of Kinect features, media stuff, and shovelware while the rest of us upgrade to the new model.
