Same shit is happening again. I’m against generic soldiers/mages and they can kill three of my party in two attacks. If I focus all my attacks on one guy, I can get them to maybe 75% health before I wipe.
Almost 19 hours in this time, rather than three, but nnnggg. Not sure what I’m meant to do, other than load an old save and, with the gift of foreknowledge, grind like a bastard.

I’m at rescue princess number 2 with help from the resistance. I’ve found her, but the guards that show up after the cutscene just annihilate me. All my skill points are spent, gear is mostly maxed out, and I’m drowning in crystals. I even tried giving Robb an accessory that boosts fire resistance, but if the mages do two fire attacks in a row, he - along with usually everyone else bar Glen - dies.

It's a bit oasis-y. It's the first main quest after the 'three months' later section, where
Spoiler:
Glenn has been living in a derelict mansion, caring for children that turn out to be a figment of his imagination. Ser Ancient Bloke Who Writes Plays Whose Name I Can't Remember turns up to reveal they've got their own airship, base, and garage full of sky armours.

Yeah, I just can’t think of which bit. Having said that, I didn’t really struggle on any of the non-optional battles, and I wasn’t doing anything fancy. I did spend a bit of time getting sp early on, there’s a nice farming spot that’s easy to get to, maybe it would help?
The knights with the shields hit pretty hard, but the mages... if both of them decide to do the fire attack, that's it. I hit the home button and restart the game.

I really don't remember that fight being an issue, you even fight variations of this many more times throughout the game IIRC... Have you been upgrading your weapons and armour? And your moves? It took me a while to work out that upgrading the moves was even a thing.
Spent the evening running around Rohlan fields, try to get some of the quest board stuff checked off. Did a few of those, upgraded some crystals.
Changed up a few of Victor's skills, so he no longer has the attack that inflicts dry (I have crystals to inflict elemental weaknesses, so it seems kinda pointless; I don't think I've ever used it, tbh), but he now has both heal all and HP regen all.
Hopefully, when I stop faffing around and re-do the next story quest, I won't get quite so badly pwned.

I never found much use for inflicting dry on enemies. I found the attacks that reduced enemy attack power the most useful, IIRC. And as for the super special abilities, Glenn's was by far the best (I think his reduced the enemy stats). If you can consistently suppress enemy attack that's a real winning strat.
