This is why Hollywood rewrites. Terrible scripts can stay optioned for years because they want to hold onto the core idea or license or whatever, bringing in re-writes later - there's a reason so many blockbusters these days have 3+ writers on. Also There was an interesting video by Lindsay Ellis on Bright, which contrasts elements of the original Bright screenplay with the version that got made. A lot of the stuff that people really don't like appear to be Ayer's intervention.
I doubt that Olson, who has spent a lot of time on twitter going through scripts, would make it up. He's generally pretty rigorous about his sources and happy to admit if he's made a mistake.
