  • The real question is, are you fixed?

I'm in the right-ish direction obvs cos I followed the sword.. but I went through a glade and around a patch and there's a lake and a waterfall. But no fruit tree and no gate.

  • Those cliffs in distance when you look left once out of main shrine... you literally need to just hug it and follow round to left, I think. No bridges or open areas, just hug it and see where it takes you. I think that should do it.

    Cool. thanks.

  • Gonna start SotC at some point today. Only TI game I’ve not completed. Enjoyed Ico, hated TLG, so I imagine it’ll be playing Delight or Disappointment.
  • Based on that being exactly my feelings toward his works I expect you'll be kind of pleased but kind of underwhelmed. Unless you particuarly enjoy boss battles, Which I don't.

  • Perhaps the game of only boss battles was not the right one for you.
  • Yeah, but everyone hates escort missions...
  • The thing is, I hate boss battles with a passion, but I love SotC.  I guess I just don't really see them as "boss battles" - at worst I regard them as puzzles to be solved, and at best (which is often) as creatures in their own right, to be studied and ultimately mastered.  (And by mastered I mean brutally and horrifically murdered for my own selfish reasons.)

For sure.. but I love Ico and, contrary to popular belief, I'm quite open minded.

What you've described there is what many consider to be a good boss battle. Many of the Metroid Prime bosses were very much like that, IIRC.

I only remember the final boss in Metroid Prime.  I hated it so, so much.
  • Had to look it up because I couldn't remember it. Yeah, that wasn't a good way to end things.
  • I thought final boss was amazing. All Metroid Prime bosses were good. Well, Ridley was a big of a battle of attrition.

  • Literally never managed to get past the first boss on metroid prime. Tried and tried.

Phazon Pirate is tougher than Meta Ridley I think, so many things can go wrong whereas old Ridders is just about dealing with one tough cookies

Prime herself is a boss I always heard was pad crushingly brutal but did it first time.

  • I’m replaying SotC HD on PS3. I really, really hope they’ve massively improved the controls for the remaster. It’s not the buttons I have an issue with,it’s the fact that you’ve got to wrestle the camera to within 5° of perpendicular to make sure Wander pulls himself up onto a ledge instead of shimmying along it or leaping at some obscure angle away from whatever it is you’re climbing. And the fact that I literally never, ever, ever want to jump near Agro.

Also, I hope they’ve fixed the 11th colossus’s attack cycle so he doesn’t just knock you down as you’re getting back up, because that’s some shitty game design right there.
  • That one was awful.  There's a similar thing near the end of Stranger's Wrath iirc.
  • Yeah, I’m sure I remember them talking about that on Cane & Rinse.

To balance that out, though, the thirteenth colossus has to be one of the greatest sequences in all video games.

    Spoiler:
  • 13th is my fave.

Is 11th the small one? I hated that shitty design too.

  • The PS3 remaster is arguably the definitive version, so I wouldn't lose too much sleep over what the remake does or doesn't do.
Come with g if you want to live...
  • Well, that’s me played through the HD version on PS3. I may have called my TV (or PS3, or controller, or the game, or me, I’m not quite sure) a ‘fucking cunt’ a number of times during the last colossus.

I’ll put together my revised thoughts tomorrow.

How do you get to that conclusion? On the basis it hasn't been meddled with?

  • Is this new version easier? I'm playing on normal and I appreciate in some cases I may remember the fight and where the weak points are, but I've now defeated number 9 and it all seems rather easy.
