Had a mate come around the other day & he is strictly an Xbot. He was on about stepping upto the next gen but was moaning about the costs. So I said that there is ton of good shit on PS3 & perhaps rather than stumping up for a next gen ghost town machine, perhaps buy a PS3 & spend the next 12 months going through Sonys finest.
I put on it & he was impressed.....
Spoiler:
..I was even more impressed that he held back the lump/tears that he was clearly dealing with, from the emotional onslaught of the games first 5 mins. That shit really nails you if you are a parent.
Just had a go of the new maps + skills + loaded up a tough chapter (Hotel) to check out the new difficulty. Grounded seems tough enough and you do die very quickly but it doesn't seem too different to Survivor (from what I remember) yet.
Tempting as a 1080p @60fps ps4 version of this is... I think the Ps3 version may be good enough for me as is. Really can't see myself re-buying it - unless there's a decent discount involved.
I've played it to death. To replay it again would taint something so special. Plus it's not a very replayable game. I think they might be milking it a bit with this new, harder difficulty when the only real danger in the game were a few 'defend this point with very limited ammo' encounters. Even on Survivor difficulty, Clickers are nothing when you realise you can pretty much go through their pockets if you creep slowly enough...
Without context most of it is hardly spoilers.
I think it's pretty much a given that at some point you meet other characters and get attacked by creatures.
Town name: Downton - Name: Nick - Native Fruit: Apples
Should have been spoiled a long time ago. She was never in the game footage and trailers from before the game came out first time around. Was inevitable.
But yeah, it doesn't help the emotional impact of that scene when you see it before you play through that segment.

All I said was 'the bit with the daughter at the start'. The video gives the whole thing away. Oh Sparkles come on. And why haven't you played this yet?
I suppose the game has been out a year. You're always going to get this when they remaster stuff. Just didn't expect a comparison video and trailer to give so much away. I mean. look at the Dark Souls thread, that was spoiled and shat over within a couple of days despite numerous other threads for that very reason...
I've just watched it the first half of it and there was nothing that spoilery in it? How would anybody know that who Joel was hugging at the start was or wasn't his daughter and how would anybody know whether Ellie was or wasn't his daughter?
As for this new shinier version I did think I'd play it but as it would involve me buying the PS4 to play it on I don't think I can justify the price of the game if it is full retail let alone the console to play it on.
I think I'll just leave TLOU up there as one of my all-time favourite games without dipping my toe back in and having any irks highlighted to me.

Hmm, someone's daughter, who only appears at the start if the game, in a scene which has an emotional impact. Nah, I can't work it out. Someone ring Sherlock Holmes, we need an expert here.
Spoilers are spoilers no matter how long the game has been out, and considering a lot of people who didn't have a PS3 but now have a PS4 will want to play it now I think it's fair enough to expect spoilery shit to be in spoiler tags.
I can't think of another game lately that has been remastered/remade that needed any spoilering. I suppose it just came out of the blue and people forget. It's been a year and because it's such a god almighty stonkingly brilliant videogame you forget that there are people that haven't played it.
EU pre-order is up for this at €44.99. Guess it's not so bad when full price games are €69.99 but I was hoping for some kind of additional discount for double-dippers.
Already played through the story and the MP-cycle twice, so idk... may just wait for a sale price....maybe....irdk.
I think I would spoil it for myself playing through the game again. I've done it twice and the second time around on survivor towards the end some of the mechanics were wearing very thin...
game's super shiny on ps4, worth a rewatch maybe hmm, i read their paper on how they did the visuals, it would be interesting going back over with some next gen consideration, hopefully they'll publish a paper on what they did for the makeover too
I might get it once I can make my PS3 redundant (as it doesn't look that much better), which seems a long way off atm and it'll be much cheaper by then.
