You on later sparkles? My in laws are over but threatening an early night so I'll be left sat bored and alone with a bottle of Baileys. I might see if ai can get on your server and go shit on your bed. When part of the island? South 2?
South 2, but it's pretty vast. It's nowhere near where we spawned. Quite tricky to tell exactly where I am without a 'you are here' icon and no way to mark the map.
Just jumped on to try to catch you. Some level 2 prick has kicked my door in, killed me, took all the shit from my storage box and even the wood from my fire while I was gone.
I'm left wondering why I bothered, and what I could have done to prevent it, it's not like you can move far off the beach. You keep your level I suppose, but if he'd have smashed my bed I'd not even have been able to spawn in the same place. All seems a bit daft.
It's not when you're on that's the bother, you've got to log off at the end of the session and then you're fucked. I mean, we're only talking a couple of hours here, what are the odds of my stuff not being taken if I leave it for a week?
I'm sure I've seen stuff on other's structures and camp fires etc. that say it's protected from damage for so many hours. Was I in a PvE server or something?
Hmmm. had a quick poke around and the consensus is that you basically greif through your early levels with a bow and pants until you're high enough to get into a bigger clan that has members that would be awake all hours. You can tame pets/dinos that will fight for you when you're gone but they are easily taken down by all accounts. Much later you can get auto turrets and whatnot.. but it seems designed around big tribes, until then you are merely a resource to be harvested like the berries on the beach.
tl:dr Don't get attached to your stuff..
There are also pve servers but then you'll see no-one at all.
Not quite.. its the same grind for the first half decent weapon and then a hunt to find a slightly higher level character who's lying on the ground to steal all their stuff..
At what point does a base become more hassle than it's worth to break into? Wood is the next level but I've a feeling it's not going to be enough.
It'd be OK if you could Minecraft it and dig down/into a cliff or whatever and conceal your entrance. As it stands the buildings stick out like a sore thumb.
I don't know, I'm still a bit sore from having my gear nabbed.
You can certainly host your own session on the PC. I was digging about again and that maybe a way to offset the griefing mechanic.
Seems the recommendation is to get to know our neighbours, talk in the public chat, find out who are the ones that are doing the killing and gang up on them. The tribe mechanic is one they wanted to go with it seems from the off; it's a big part of the game.
You can make it so that it's just you and yer buddies on a session but that presumably would mean that you can only run it when the owner is on? Someone also mentioned that running a server session is quite demanding?
Or you go completely solo against the dinos and just poke about on your own.
Also, is it just me or is the resolution very, very low on this game? It appears extremely pixelated and blurry. I have to say though, I love the idea of it all.
Not played the bone version but the PC version is very graphically demanding, I wouldn't be suprised if the bone version was lower res than most games.
It's definitely a step down from those PC shots, but I'd not have said it's extreme.
Try a bit of single player by hosting your own game. You can get a refund from Microsoft apparently, as not being able to actually play the game online is a bit of a boob.
It's very blurry for me, I'd like to see some of your screenshots, because on my Xbox it looks like Turok and I've heard reports of other people sating such as well.
