Having a semi intelligent race of zombies that can be reasoned with goes against the whole concept of an unrelenting wave of numbers. Digging down further into that zombies have routinely represented societies, how mass mindless groups can turn and even when weak individually are strong in numbers. How the plague can spread person to person like sick ideals can. Biting a neck is so close to whispering in an ear. The analogues then are society at its worst.

Certainly not the semi victims these super zombies are presented as.

If they are semi intelligent and have super strength/speed are they really zombies at all or just some other type of monster?

There appear to be 3 (now 4 with the robot) types of zombies in this movie.

1. Normal lets call them Romero zombies. The film nerfs them instantly by having them hibernate. Then the characters are well equipped, well experienced in taking them on. These provide no threat at all at any point.

2. Super zombies. These came across more like some kind of fucked up vampire type monster to me. Spent most of the movie leaping around posing and making raptor noises. These are the main threat but actually the only one who was dangerous had a metal hat he kept taking off.

3. The piles news the entrance. Blondey mentions that they come to life in the rain a bit.

I was fully expecting a rain storm to hit as they were leaving and them having to fight through a hoard of Romeros, a few Supers hunting them all while the ground and piles of husks were reaching out and grabbing them. That would have been an awesome visual and insanely tense.
