The thing that really bothers me is that the amount of hype and the quality of the previous games (as with Battlefield for instance) means that it will have sold a shitload and EA will learn nothing. Maxis woman has also really made herself look like an idiot.
Glad I never gave in and got this, will be avoiding all EA games in the future on principle.
So that bug list along with the Eurogamer review conspire to make this game sound fundamentally broken. Even leaving aside the fact that people are struggling to actually play it.
Can't people get refunds? There really ought to be something in place ensuring people can
Pretty shocking, really. And also disappointing. I would love a good Simcity game. But i also want it to actually be a city simulation. None of this borders shite and stuff like that. I'd also like it if the style of architecture wasn't so typically American
It's just getting used to some of the quirks like where resources come from and such, mines are free range until you build on them which is new and not as visually clear. Also stuff like pollution has a big effect, and as you play along factions unlock which can make things super complicated and trade routes become messy.
"So, could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes. But we rejected that idea because it didn’t fit with our vision."
Given the stuff that's listed it doesn't really sound like there was any need to have it online. Leaderboards aside, it appears all of that could have been done locally. What happened to the sever side calculations and all that shit that stop us needing a supercomputer to run the game? Was that after all cobblers?
I don't mind in the slightest if they wanted interactions between regions and needed a server based system to support that. But at least make it fekking work. I'm having trouble trading, gifting and building a great work because despite the server status being green it simply doesn't work well if at all. And this is hampering two cities I own. There's just no need for it.
