Started playing this, nice and colourful which is a pleasant change from everything else. Never played the original, didn't realise that this is literally like a comedy cartoon version of Inception.
Just installed it. Never played the first and have very little idea what I'm getting into, but it seems to have its fans here so like a sheep I follow.
So far so good. It's a mostly pretty chilled out experience with a scattering of challenge here and there, and I'm sure there will be tougher bits later on. Plenty of charming NPC chatter and satisfying collectable stuffage dotted throughout the environments.
The various abilities are fun to play around with too, quite fun trying to chain them together skillfully in combat.
Can't say I've noticed much jank so far, seems quite solid and slick overall. Occasionally I get a few stutters when stuff is loading in and sometimes when I use the telekinesis to smash something, but I am running it at 140 FPS maxed out and it's extremely smooth for 98% of the time so mustn't grumble. Trying to find the last thing when going for 100% in a level is annoying of course but the gorgeous art direction and graphics make it a pleasant activity. Sound design and music are crisp too.
Platforming been a little janky for me, won't lie. But everything else is so shiny and well done, I can't be mad at it. Real pixar vibes to the hub, with all the music and NPCs and life about the place.
Only issue with the platforming for me is its a bit floaty.
But then that's almost every 3D playformer tbh. Script is really well done and seeing a company just chucking all their wackiest ideas at it is fantastic.
Can't explain why I seem to be bouncing off this. The hub isn't helping, I was expecting a level by level affair tbh (with less cutscenes). There are more doodads and menus than I'd like too.
Will give it another hour then possibly shelve it until I'm in the mood.
There’s defo too many cutscenes, too many collectibles and too many powers just given to you at the start. There’s a lot to like but it’s not top tier stuff. Coming from It Takes Two this is nowhere near that in terms of quality of presentation and animation and general feel to the play.
