This in week in Fallout land saw the release of the new 'Wastelanders DLC'. Set to introduce something truly radical and never seen before in online RPGs... NPCs that you can "actually talk to!"
Building upon the 'dialogue tree system' first popularized by Black Isle over twenty years ago in Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, Fallout 76 takes it to the next level:
In true Fallout 76 fashion, this DLC keeps to that well worn path of 'one step forward, two steps backwards'. Onto a frag mine. Which blows your leg clean off:
- The DLC is free, but all the new faction skins and base camp cosmetics are locked behind a £25 paywall
- A new in-game currency system has been introduced, called 'Gold Bullion' You can earn Gold freely by competing in daily events, and a 1000 Bullion buys you some Power Armour. It takes you approximately 100 hours of play to earn that many though. But the good news is that you can buy your 'Gold Bullion' from the in-game shop with real money instead!!!
- The DLC requires you to re-download the entire game from scratch. Yep, all 70GB of it.
Wastelanders comes with "nearly 1000 bug fixes!". I read the patch notes so you don't have to. Here are my favourites:
Spoiler:
firing an automatic weapon no longer causes the weapon to stop firing.
Players no longer get stuck aiming down sights after pressing the button to aim down sights
Acid attacks from players wearing certain types of power armour no longer cause performance issues or fatal crashes.
Bethesda. Bethesda never changes.
It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map
Congratulations to the Houses, I hope your child doesn't grow up to be a tyrannical frozen husk that physically represents itself as a computer screen.
