Haha, I fell down that hole, freaked out, rolled away several times, and used a homeward bone!
Also seeing chatter that it's likely only early in the game that the difficulty is tangibly different. It's not to do with enemy damage output but that you start with higher defence from the same vigor on Bono, which becomes less important as you go through the game? Other people completely disagreeing, of course. Meh. Souls is Souls is Souls! It's hardly a cakewalk!
Today's Top Tip: When you're in your inventory, click RS to make the right-hand half of the screen show your character/in-game. Perfect for Fashion Souls costume changes.
Yeah there's a way that looks like you've been there but you haven't. You'll suss it.
Spoiler:
I'm currently at the cathedral of the deep and I'm just staggered by the level design and sheer variety of enemies. There must be at least ten completely different types in this one area alone. If not more. Constantly surprising. Can't stop playing.
I was about to say: CotD is amazing. Such great level design. I'm at the boss. Need to suss a good shortcut to it so I can try it repeatedly without little enemies frustrating me.
Let me know once you get near/at boss, wanna ask you something about one of the routes that opens near the end.
Started as cleric because Garl Vinland. I couldn't light the first bonfire. Ok, I thought, maybe you have to activate them somehow this time. Going completely dark meant I knew nothing of how the game is structured. Reached what looked like a boss arena but no boss appeared. Maybe it shows up later or something, NG+ perhaps, plenty of bloodstains around anyway, could even be a PvP hotspot.
Then I see the invisible geometry and floating trees in the next area, so I reload the game and it seems fine. I can't go back through the door to the arena area as it's closed so I guess you have to do that lizard at your starting level, that's cool.
Onwards to firelink, level up, look longingly at the halberd, fight katana man, fight katana man, blast katana man off cliff with Force. Explore. Can't fast travel yet so I explore some more. Run around for a bit gathering a few souls. Ok where the actual fuck do you go.
Maybe it's another glitch. Reload: no change. Start another build: ok there was a boss wtf. Still no clue where to go afterwards. Tried playing offline, in smouldering and non-smouldering form, killing everything, exhausting all NPC dialogue, tried a third build on my Japanese account, skirting the perimeter of the entire area in search of a path. Still nothing and still no travelling from the firelink bonfire.
Message Curtis, he has no idea. I buy halberd with my amassed souls, small comfort but tbf it is pretty cool.
"Any luck" he says, just as the pieces fall together in my brain. Missing geo, missing bosses, no access to other areas and, come to think of it, the game did download at a remarkable speed. Still sitting here with 15 minutes remaining on the download, may as well kill those dreglings again...
PS4 I'm guessing as you seem to be online? I'm also guessing you didn't make the mistake of (someone else from here) and not pick up the item that the boss drops??
I managed to load up game and until where you are at about 20% download/install. Thought it downloads first area and then the rest?
No lie, I've been on it for five hours. Still don't feel like I'm anywhere near the end. I've lost over fifty thousand souls here. So many little back routes and shortcuts and traps and nightmares.
It's like Undead Burg, Anor Londo and Dukes all rolled into one great big fun house.
I'm at the Cathedral. I've done the Catacombs & Keep but need to find a doll to enter the most beautiful area in any game ever. Must be in the Cathedral, I'm thinking, unless there's another area I've missed? I'd walked past the entrance to the Cathedral area about 5-6 times!
Really pleased I've managed to maintain without looking anything up so far! So tempting when you get flummoxed! What SL are you guys and what weapons are you using? I'm on Fire Longsword +3 and a Raw Uchigatana + 3. SL46 or something now, I think.
Cathedral boss was easy for me. I'm level 36 and long sword +3. Where the fuck are the large shards?!
Think I'm doing it in the right order.
SC: did you go up to the
Spoiler:
roof using one of the lifts you find near the end and was there much up there except items? I thought there should be more but couldn't see anything else.
i went in light (no shield or second weapon) so I can run and roll easy, double handed long sword. The guy with red aura is the archdeacon, rest are minions. Run to him, slash away, loses health when he dies, aura goes to another minion. Rinse repeat.
Once health is lower, he changes form. I lure away some of the guys, find small opening, rush in and heavy attack a few times. Rinse and repeat. Don't let him heal!
Also, it did take me a while to get round the whole place, luckily I didn't lose too many souls. Had two occasions where I was running around with over 20k souls with no estus and small health. Tense, but played safe and beat cunts to find bonfire etc.
Haven't defeated the two big thingies, if you even can. Lots of items near them!!!
Ha ha just realised what a pleb I've been!! That was easy!!!

The church in High Wall with the old lady in. I know there's a ladder and a secret door behind her, but you can do something else in there but I'm not sure why yet!!! That's all I'm saying!!!
