101 Things that get on our tits but don't actually matter in the slightest.

The roads in Glasgow suck shit. Be good if they could bother their arses to fix the pot holes and maybe repaint a few lines and road markings so I can actually see where I'm supposed to go.
Aye, our roads are a complete shitshow.

Same with Brum. £1.1bn sorts a lot of roads. But I’m gonna take people being paid equally for the job they do over someone worrying about a bump or two in the road.

Brum issue with equal pay isn't the only woe. They pissed away humongous money on an IT system that still doesn't work. They're the talk of the public sector IT community.

You can set Tidal as an Alexa skill, or whatever they're called, and it'll automatically use your Tidal account for playing music. I don't think it has any bearing on number of devices or anything like that. It's tied to your account.

Just got round to trying this.  Not in the UK, unfortunately.

Really? All you're doing is setting Alexa to use Tidal as the go-to music provider in the settings (the same way you can choose Spotify or whatever over the default Amazon music). I can't see how that could possible be excluded in the UK.
  • Spotify is an option, along with a couple of others.  Couldn't see Tidal - only had a quick look though.  I Googled and found people moaning about it on Reddit from late 2023, so it does seem to be a thing.

Maybe I'm misremembering. I haven't had Tidal for ages and I haven't used Alexa since I don't know when but I thought it worked for me. Maybe not. I just tried to connect via Qobuz, which I'm using at the moment, and that doesn't show up either. Maybe Alexa is just shit, like Amazon in general.
  • I never managed to get tidal to play with Alexa.

At a stretch I guess you can just use the thing as a bluetooth speaker and tell your phone what to play rather than Alexa.
  • Oh right can you? That'd do. My portable boothtooth speaker is shite.

Yeah, when I'm driving I just tell my phone what to play and it connects to the bluetooth and does it no problem. The Echo speakers work the same, you just have to tell Alexa to go into bluetooth mode or pairing mode the first time and pair your phone.
  • Got robbed in a pub quiz. One of the questions was ‘from which city did the Titanic first set sail’. Literally exactly those words, so the answer is clearly Belfast, where it was built. Quizmaster had other ideas and only awarded marks for Southampton.

We were tied for first place at the end but lost the tie breaker, but it shouldn’t have got that far.
  • I remember getting fucked over by a "what is the lowest scoring colour in snooker?" to which the answer is clearly yellow as reds are not colours. Quiz bellend obviously had other ideas.
  • The white doesn't get you any points!
  • It got me loads of points last time we played.

Russell Brand. The grifter that just keeps on grifting. Now he’s going to be baptised to leave his past behind. Doesn’t hurt if you’re leaving behind sexual allegations I suppose. But I don’t think it’s that. I think he’s realised he needs a new audience (the Covid conspiracists are probably losing interest), especially a US Bible Belt audience, that will pay big for his bullshit. I would not be surprised to see him turn up on the evangelical circuit in a couple years.

  • Just rang my Granny.
She's got new home phones and can't programme the address book so she asks who it is.
I say it's Ben, she says no wrong number, she's half deaf so I say no, it's Ben. This goes on for several cycles until eventually the person at the end of the phone says she's not my Granny.
The dozy cunts at BT or whoever fannies about with the lines these days have done some work on the phone lines and just connected them back up seemingly at random. Everyone's number is going to the wrong house. Whole housing estate is like it and it's basically 100% old people so they all have landlines and little red emergency triangles which presumably work but send and ambulance to a random person's house.

I apologise profusely and ring her mobile, thankfully she has one.
  • Good grief, that’s amazing and horrific at the same time.
  • Gotta laugh about it but what a massive cock up.
It's playing havoc with the internet as well.
  • For many years my mum used to always ask if I'd called my grandma (may she rest in peace the tough old bird).  The answer was always yes as I kept in regular contact with her even when I was living abroad.  Our phone calls went something like this:

    "Hi Lottie, its me"

"Oh hello, thanks for calling.  How are you?"

    "I'm good.  How are you?"

    "I'm fine.  Ok bye"

I'd then get a message from mum telling me that it had made grandma's day that I'd called her.
  • My nan used to sign off every phonecall (and card or letter) with "still working!", which was the slogan for a toothpaste advert in the late 80s.  No idea why that stuck but it was our thing for about 20yrs.
  • :) Lovely stuff
  • My grandma used to always asked if I was “arranged” in reference to karate kid 2, which we watched once when she was babysitting for me when I was about 10, up until my wedding day (she was about 98 when I got married) when she said “now you’re finally arranged”. Good times.

It's good that you got to spend time with her.  My mum lives with us yet still so busy with work and the kids that I don't always sit down and chat with her - just small chat when I help with her food and tea and other stuff.  On the odd occasion that I do sit down with her, leaves me feeling so happy and glad that I did.
