Finally saw the 3072 tile but got stuck shortly after. Something like 186k, so not the top forum score. I'm sure I'll play a bit more from time to time.
I'm pretty sure I'm worse than I used to be at this, but I got a bit lucky.
The update's made higher level play a bit easier, instead of just a + tile in next for everything above 3, it shows three possibilities for the next tile so you have a rough idea of how high the next tile will be. Also, there's now a boost start so you no longer have to start from scratch. Despite all this, I'm yet to top my previous score.
Hmmm... I'm not sure about the + thing. I seem to recall it giving me tiles it wasn't suggesting, which made me think it was just a display change rather than a mechanics change. If it's definitely showing the tiles I could get then I should have got a better score, as I got completely scuppered by a 48 tile which I gambled could be a 300+.
I just discovered the boost - my score was set from scratch. Not a bad idea, but seems a bit cheaty to use if you can't consistently getting the 3xx tile.
Ah, that's pretty smart. First bit of the game is a grind so that's very welcome. Though it means I won't play on my tablet as I've only got the 1536 on that.
The 3,072 itself requires a very lucky run (unless they've changed how the tiles are generated over the past few years), so I don't think I will ever see that one. The game really breaks down at the higher scores when 4 or so tiles are effectively immobile. The slightest bit of bad luck will turn everything upside down.
Also, 40 minutes is a bit excessive for a toilet break.
I don’t know about very lucky, I’ve seen enough 3072s that the score at the top of this page no longer even features in my high score table. But luck is certainly required.
Yeah, you're probably right. When I thought this run might be on I really slowed down my play and did a lot more planning. I suspect I'd see the 1,500 and then the 3,000 a lot more if I played like that consistently. I wasn't counting tiles either, so I guess that would be the next level of play.
I still maintain the really good runs rely significantly on luck. Certainly for me.
Is the corner strategy still the best one, or is there something else that people are doing these days?
