Really like that Mazzy Star tune. Been meaning to get some of their stuff for ages, particularly since hearing Paradise Circus by Massive Attack, which has Hope Sandoval on vocals. Good show.
Like it. Love the sound of the organ. Serene but slightly dark so as not to be dull. Like the melancholy, melodic vocal, didn't really pick up on any of the lyrics though.
Ooooh, I liked it. Lovely voice, nice yearning 'heartbroken but accepting' atmosphere to it. I'd imagine on the wrong day it's the kind of tune that could send you into a bit of a mope, purely by the atmosphere of it, the lyrics are pretty vague. But that's alright. Moping once in a while is fine.
I've only heard bits and pieces of Mazzy Star and know little about them other than the singer dated Jim Reid from the Mary Chain. (No idea why this pointless piece of pop-trivia stuck in my brain).
My brother likes them but I never really got PIL. Don't like listening to them but they still seem to get stuck in my head, in this case that's just him shouting the title over and over with some funky guitar not quite managing a good riff.
Just no. Sorry, but PiL really were utter wank. I could literally count the number of good songs in their back catalogue on one hand.
New album out soon too apparently.
I can't complain about this one. I Saw them live back in December 2009 playing through a fantastic set of old stuff. One of the best gigs I've ever been to. Mrs Malowner was there and 7 months pregnant. She had to go and stand at the back at one point when they turned the bass right up. The boy in utero was going a bit mad.
I heard a couple of new tracks on TV when they played at the 6 Music 10th anniversary and I wasn't too impressed. The songs just seemed over indulgent and too long (even for PIL's standards). I won't be seeing them again just to avoid the dissapointment of them not living up to their past performance.

Weirdly I'm less concerned about ever-touring prog outfits. Could even be tempted to pitch up at an Anderson/Bruford/Howe/Squire/Wakeman Yes revivo, in a small venue.
They're out on tour right now I think, someone asked me to go see them in August but I didn't want to. I suspected that seeing fat johnny and his session men was a bit pointless, but maybe they'd be alright. They're before my time so it means less to me to see them as embarrassing old men, 'cause I don't remember them first time around. With post-punk bands it seems even more sad they're stuck on the grind of the nostalgia circuit touring cycle, given that they were nominally aiming to do away with all that.
Just the pics of the Blur reunion put me off though, middle-aged paunches peeking out from underneath Fred Perry tops. The Stone Roses look like a removals firm these days.Â
First three PiL albums are great. If you ignore the rest (except maybe Album) then they're excellent. I'm sure there's the odd moment of quality on later records but I've never really looked into them properly.
