He has some points, the reliance on the Mario mascot being one of them. But. On consoles there have been 3 Mario Golf games counting this one. So it's hardly sweating that particular franchise. There have been maybe another 3 on handhelds. But that's since the N64 days. So that's well over 2 decades.
There is a topic of conversation he inadvertently stumbled on though that I find interesting. Why do games need to "move on" when they have been done more or less right from the start? Some games don't need it. Shiner graphics and new levels/tracks may well be enough. For example - I'll cite Monkey Ball, Pilotwings and F-Zero.
I mean....it's fucking Golf. All it needs is great course design to "move on".
Wondering if he has actually played the game too to judge its quality. Mario Golf was outsourced from the start to Camelot - the house that did Everybody's Golf - which was a solid move as far as I can tell.
Sounded like he was trying to be Bill Burr at certain points.
Watching this on the Treehouse thing and I'm liking the look of the swing mechanic. Once you've set the power the bar starts from the bottom again and the snap is at the top.
