Not really. I mean, I suppose they're not vastly dissimilar if someone was looking for a list of similarities, but they're different beasts for sure. This is far more straightforward, A to B level progression platformer.
Think of Shovel Knight as pool and Hollow Knight as snooker - you can transfer your snooker skills to the pool table but vice versa can be overwhelming, so as a fan of Hollow Knight I'd say you're well equipped to tackle (and enjoy) this.
It's good, sticking with my early call that it might be the best of the DLC campaigns. Joustus is....a thing. It's not for me, but stuff like that never is really.
Signs point to the Showdown mode being a legit Towerfall/Smash type too.
What a package, pretty impressive that you get all the additions for free if you bought the game early on. Feel a bit of a traitor not playing the campaign on 3DS for the first time, but I had to justify my Switch purchase (also justified by co-op and Showdown mode).
99% sure it gets the King of Cards campaign, it definitely got the other two (gratis). Showdown mode hasn't been added to the Vita or 3DS versions though.
No Switch, I got whatever version was released on that in a sale.
Tbh it's confusing as fuck, the version I have has a subtitle that I thought was definitive. There was another one in a sale recently that I was gonna buy until you told me I already had it.
If it's not called Treasure Trove you may have bought the vanilla version, if there is one. The dlc can be purchased as standalone games but I'm not sure if a basic Shovel Knight exists any more so my guess would be you're fine.
Close to five hours in and this is excellent. Unless the king ends up shitting the bed royally it's on course to be the best of the additional campaigns. For reference I gave Plague of Shadows a [6] and Specter of Torment an [8]. Yacht games have mastered their magic game in this; the ever expanding toolkit is both useful and fun.
