His set when he came second behind Andy at the DnB Awards showed how much they got it wrong that year (think it was 01 iirc), it's pretty much the perfect set with Fearless and Eks going mental over it.
Oh cool, thought I might be missing a trick. The stuff being posted is more my era, insofar as it reflects the time I was paying more attention to the genre.
It's when the liquid style (too slow for me) kinda took over, then fucking clownstep (fucking Twist 'em Out bringing that shit to the fore) appeared. It slowly seems to be heading back to more of its roots, but I don't really keep up anymore.
Bladerunner does do some fecking amazing remixes, though.
Brooks - some, not what I enjoy. Skrillex is a dick.
98-02 is my favourite period, also. But nothing has 'killed' the genre. It's far too multifaceted, and it evolves too quickly for one style to take over. If there's something inherent you like about the genre, they'll be something out there. It is indeed having a little resurgence of the good times this year - bladerunner, jubei and rockwell are good examples.
@DS Bacteria, again in my top 10 ever. Tonn D Piper used to rinse an amazing verse over the intro in my bro's sets in Manc. Shout outs to Alien Girl too - almost operatic in its over-the-topness.
Haha that's amazing that you know who he is. He's well known up there I guess.
That set I mentioned, was at Spellbound and I'd taken my first pill (Superman, I tripped that the place was full of floating money Cyrstal Maze style) and one of the best nights of my life. Used to have the cassette, which got played in every car trip I took for about 2 years. That was 12 years ago...fuck!
I don't remember the night, nah. I would've just turned 16 or so, and I knew literally no-one else (well, I knew one guy but he was a cock) into Jungle/DnB.
Not really been to any 'proper' nights, not a live music type.
Nah me neither, haven't seen a band play out since the Chilli Peppers when I was 15. Actually there was randomly Babyshambles a couple of years ago, where Doherty had picked at the wounds of some insert into his chest designed to help him stop shooting up, so that he could shoot up. Pale as white and bleeding, not a good look. Not a good sound either, about 2/3rds of the way though his guitarist strolled up to him and plugged his in.
Anyway, that dnb night I was only 17 then, was a kid. Got utterly addicted to raving for a few years though : )
