I realise arsenal are going about the appointment of a new manager in a very corporate way (finding someone with right characteristics). They are casting a wide net (10+ on the list) . It gets a little silly when Utd number 2, rui faria is linked with the job and mourinho comments on it as well.
Iirc, you've still got to play Killie, Aberdeen and Hibs before season's end. I'd have waited till the close season to announce him, because the potential for disaster is great here, but I suppose that's the Rangers way...
I know fuck all about soccerball, but the news headlines just explained that Gerrard has never had a "top" management position before. Isn't this a bit concerning? Has he actually managed a club before?
It seems like he has leap frogged the first job and this should have been his second appointment.
Even just a year at another club would have benefited him I think, Rangers is a pretty high pressure job.
maybe they're announcing it now so it destabilises the run in and they drop a few places...then next season he can get them to 2nd and be a 'success'...
Tbf the Stevie G plan, being a 4 year deal seems like it's more to stop 10 in a row. I don't think they're expecting him to turn the team around in a year, and likely are telling him second next year is the target. What happens after that is where it gets interesting.
