The first game from Cliffy B's Boss Key Productions, Lawbreakers is a high skill multiplayer objective and character based arena FPS coming to PC on August 7th and PS4 on August 8th. For £24.99 you'll get the full game and all future non-cosmetic DLC, so characters, maps and modes, with just the dress-up stuff available as microtransactions.
The game has you playing as one of nine character classes, each with their own set weapons and abilities, in one of two teams, the Law and the Breakers, competing in objective based gameplay across several modes and over a variety of arena maps. Oh, and each map has large low/no gravity zones.
Incredibly fast and fluid movement together with brutal and intense gunfights are what this game's all about. Choose the character with abilities that best suit your playstyle (or design that least offends your sensibilities), play the objective or play disruption, and grin like a maniac as you get your first low-G multikill with reflexes you didn't realise you had and escape with barely a smidgen of health.
If you hold a candle for the likes of Quake and Unreal and are looking for a new hardcore PvP game, give this a go. It's a beast. Here's a quick look at a single character class, map, and mode, hope to see y'all ingame sometime.
The official website and YouTube channel have plenty of info on getting started, and whilst the community is still small the lovely Tony Mo and Frothy Omen are covering it in depth on their YouTube channels.
Any PC or PS4 Titanfallers up should give this a go, reckon you'd take to it in a heartbeat. Also, I'll use this space to add details of the err, two or so peeps that actually get it.
Do it, Tiger! The games are short and from what I played of the beta it was an absolute blast. it's not gonna compete with OW, but it'll be that fun filled break you need when comp is getting you down.
And yeah it's got a genuinely high skill floor, but having the odd hardcore PvP game that doesn't cater to the scrub masses is a fantastic thing imo.
It looks good but I'm not sure it stands out.
FPS is at saturation point so they are going to have to pull people away from their current game(s) of choice.
I will not be in, nowhere near the time to dedicate to shooters.
Depends on what kinda FPS you're looking for I s'pose. Old school arena shooters like this are rare as hens' teeth, and for fans of the style (I still regularly play Quake III and Unreal Tournament on my potato PC) this is a godsend. Granted, PC payers have the upcoming Quake and Unreal games to look forward to but if you're on console this is your only real option.
I can't see it troubling the top ten of any sales chart, but I'm hoping there'll be a solid community of old farts and young'uns alike won over by its balls to the wall intensity and demanding skill requirement.
A nice retail price in fairness. But, I think when I fancy some shooty shootys I'll just play a few games of Overwatch. I'm sure this will catch on with the core FPS market though and guys in their mid 20s with a lot of spare time and decent brain function. For me though, like so many others have said - it would be the stuff of nightmares nowadays.
Frothy trying out the newest hero and map (unavailable during the last open beta) at the final developer event before launch. MUTHA CHUFFING LASER BOOTS!
So launch day is laggy as hell on PS4, Boss Key are working on a fix ASAP but still...
Only played three matches so far, tried the Harrier first but the game was stuttering so bad I couldn't do anything with that hitscan laser. So I went for the slowest AOE hero in the game, Titan, for my last two matches. Bossed it, two MVP's and one super clutch moment to win the last game (and get my first S rank). Guess you don't need to play this game all super twitch, slow and steady tanks have their place.
The beta was smooth as silk but it's a real issue atm. Just had a game where you could see people freezing in place and I was teleporting all over the map. Feelsbadman.
It's running a lot smoother now, just had a cracking game of Uplink. Genuinely surprised how much I've taken to Titan.
Edit: Nope, it's an unplayable shitfest. Really disappointed in Boss Key.
Edit 2: A patch for the PS4 hitching issues (the massive lag spikes affecting the whole team whenever someone re-spawned etc) is going live at 2:30pm today. Woulda been sooner but all patches have to be approved by Sony. Fingers crossed this does it.
Yup, it's running super smooth now, and the gameplay is just fantastic! High speed, high skill floor, zero downtime. It's a good caffeine substitute, this.
The short tutorial vids are well worth looking at, and maybe load up a custom game to have a blast around a map or two and get used to the movement/abilities of various characters before jumping into a game with them. I plan on doing just that with the Assassin shortly.
It's cheap and great fun for relatively short play sessions (any more than 90mins at a time and I think my head would explode). Come and get rekt with us, Dante!
