Had a little go just then Ram and gotta say it's all very spiffy. Looks amazingly sharp in 1440p and seemed to run really well. My monitor was showing 120hz so I'm guessing there's no auto g-sync or anything (usually requires v-sync to be off) so I'd be interested in whether that's a hard thing to implement.
I really like the course design too. The mountain one is heaps of fun. I'm looking forward to giving the multiplayer a spin.
I think I found a minor bug. I should try and recreate it but essentially I was playing in the van then quit to menu then hit play again and changed to the regular car but when I selected Play it loaded me in the van again. Was fine to swap when I did it from the in game menu but I thought I'd let you know.
Cheers Shabby. v-sync settings are standard unity quality settings, the default 'fantastic' level is v-sync so if you're monitor is 120Hz it will go for that.
I'll look into the bug. I too love the skybox, though it's a unity asset, not my own handy work.
Multiplayer is what it's all about, so would be cool if you got to experience that. If you're ever on steam and see me on at the same time, drop me a msg if you want a game - I very rarely get on steam these days if I'm not testing or working on the game anyway. Though obviously I appreciate there are some time zone differences!
Cheers G. I'm in a number of different minds about drivers, the main one currently being that it's a largely superficial thing that can wait! However 'odd' would certainly be in the mix if/when it happens...I'd thought about daft things like just putting models like a 'horse head mask' in the seat and have it turn and look at the other cars as they go past, or my fave (but perhaps complicated and bad for performance) is putting 'ragdoll' men in the cars so they bounce and rattle around with the cars
Trying to arrange a beta test session for my game, this Thursday from 9pm. Just trying to get a bunch of people online at the same time for testing and hopefully a bit of fun too.
If any of you lot would like to join in that would be great. If you want to play but don't already have access to the steam beta version let me know and I'll sort you out!
Cheers.
Have been online with this for nearly 30min - noone else around. Am I in the right time zone for this?
Playing with a keyboard on a very old PC. I've stepped it down to 640x480 and it plays OK but it's pretty unforgiving - maybe that's what you are going for?. Have put in a couple of clean laps on most of the tracks.
Can't get the controller to work but I can't with my other Steam games either since I went to Windows 10, so I'd say it's not a game code issue.
Haha. No probs Davy, cheers for trying (also you're not the only person to get the day wrong so far!). 640x480 is taking it proper old school! And using keys is definitely an 'unforgiving multiplier'.
It's not really meant to be 'very hard', but I've deliberately made the handling a bit different. Trying to get a mix of fun arcade appearance and feel, but underneath it's all physics driven so can reward people that 'get it'. Rather than just be 'grip limited' like most driving games, I wanted you to have worry about the balance, and the spongy suspension makes the cars lean a lot. So with the car and van in particular, turning too hard and fast can make you tip over...then the other cars have their own weaknesses to balance things out. But without analogue controls to make smoother adjustments it gets pretty tricky.
So if you've done clean laps on all the circuits, with keys and playing at 640x480, then you've done pretty well!
@G It's always been in my mind to try it, in fact was initially conceived partly as a mobile idea, but just focusing on desktop version at the mo. Once it's done, I'll prob go back and see if I can get it to work on mobile.
Davy, what kind of joypad you using? Works with xbox360 and steam controller...should work with others with standard input but if you have something more obscure I'll look into it.
Can't remember right now - but it's a well known brand (might be Logitech). I've had it ages so maybe it's a Unity thing. The test facility in the Windows Control panel detects all the buttons and sticks without the need for a specific driver.
Will have a look when I get home and let you know.
