OMG so close at the end there!
Cracking match - a mate at work plays on PC at lunch and it really is quite fun just spectating. I absolutely don't understand why people watch Twitch streams of RTS or MOBA games, but I could understand watching RL.
The RTS stuff is interesting even though I don't play the games, watching a top player knock out actions so fast that you can't really tell what he's even doing blows my mind a bit. They're playing on a level way above what I thought people would be capable of.
Problem being, I just don't care about whether some other dude wins or loses in a strategy game, same as I don't watch chess matches - but I find it a lot easier to get invested in something more basic like "will this round thing go between these posts" or "will this fightman character beat up the other one".
Aye, there's something about a bouncing ball that draws the eye.
I've got to say, playing this is the closest a game has come to capturing the feeling of playing football. FIFA 11v11 and controlling a single player in PES were good, and of course there's The Beautiful Game, but this really captures that 'OMG CHANCE! Ah, I rushed it and spooned it.' thing which is a hallmark of my footballing days. And making a good save feels as good as scoring a goal. Magic game.
