The icon is a spotting mechanic, it only pops up if you or your team mates push the button to make it appear, or if the monster startles birds on the map. Combat was pretty fun when I played it, there's more to it (with the combinations of classes/abilities) than it looks.IanHamlett wrote:Just watched a chunk of a stream. 10 minutes of running after an icon that tells you where the monster is, followed by a minute of average combat. Depending on the hit, they do go flying! I mean, it's not as obvious when playing as the monster, because it's like 2-3 times bigger than a tank but it does happen. Anyway, watch the bar - if you've hit they'll lose, like, half their health.Dogfingers wrote:i expected it to feel like when you're the tank in L4D, when you smack something it goes flying. A shame, then, that these main event encounters lack punch and power. Yes, the tactical opportunities are plentiful, but it's tough to derive true satisfaction from a well-placed orbital strike or carefully-managed heal when the actual impact of battling the beast feels so hollow. It's a problem with feedback, in that there's very little. Blasting the beast feels little different to blasting a wall; it doesn't react to gunfire and the only way of knowing you're actually doing damage is by watching the health bar go down.
The icon these people were chasing was "the monster just scared some birds" every time it went past some trees.vicinity_of_pie wrote:The icon is a spotting mechanic, it only pops up if you or your team mates push the button to make it appear, or if the monster startles birds on the map.
