Get yer Keks off in here. What's your tipple? I like em peaty but I have a tipping point at about Laphroaig where I think they get touristy peaty. Ardbeg is a right no no.
Tonight I'm starting easy on Highland Park 12 y.o. It's very middle of the road but comically quaffable.
What's your poison? -
I was going to post Laphroaig, I really like that but it is about my limit for the peaty/smokiness to. -

Drinking some of this Glenlivet 15yo tonight. It is delightful and incredibly smooth and easy to drink.
Just wish I hadn't left my lovely wobbly Talisker glass at my parents. I say mine, it's my dads, but you know... it's actually mine.

Ardbeg Uigeadail is my favourite whisky of all time. An assist to Brooks for that one, I think he first mentioned it on the forum before last. Lagavulin 16yr is the nicest drop I've bought recently (20cl bottles are going for £10.95 at www.thewhiskyexchange.com, which works out cheaper in bulk than the 70cl bottle).Â
My Ikea drinks cabinets are my pride and joy. Whisky has taken a back seat to Spanish brandy and rum this year though. No-one else is interested in my obsession, so I'll post them here:
Whisky/whiskey on the left, miscellaneous bottom left, brandy/cognac on the right, vodka (the crystal skull has been refilled with the superior Ketel One...apologies to Dan Aykroyd) and rum lower down. Popped in The Whisky Shop in Vinopolis today, and bought another rum that clearly won't fit. -

Send messageWhenever talk gets round to whisky it's always nice to note how many people here are fans of Island stuff. Lagavulin 16yr is superb, though I don't buy it often, and Moots cabinet is awesome. I'm a bit jealous. -
I'm hoping there's a Jura under the tree. If not, well, I'll sort it myself in the new year.

I won't hear a word against Ardbeg.Â
The 10 year is sensational; Uigeadial is off the chart. A single drop of water to take off the cask strength edge and release those aromatics and you're in heaven. After it's troubled past it's fantastic that Ardbeg is cranking out the drams that it is.
Laphroaig is a weak Islay for me and I'll never hold it in high esteem. If you don't like the peat, get off Islay (and Jura).
Any Lagavulin is also a great drop. Can't argue with that.

Send messageI'm not, I'm just having ice with mine, whether it's right or wrong I prefer it with ice and I drink it fast enough for the ice not to taint too much! -
Ice in a whisky is not as crazy as it sounds.

Some whiskys are way too potent and actually need to be dulled a little to be pleasant

Stick ice in it and it doesn't taste of anything. Good whisky should be drunk at a bear minimum of room temp, slightly warmer if possible.
Stick it in glass and than cup it in your hands for a good 5 minutes; ideally feet up infront of a roaring fire. Then you'll hear what it has to say.
(yes am drunk. On Ardbeg 10 as it goes)
