Any more? Will draw the partnerships out of a hat when it looks like we're all in.
Out of interest, can people list what consoles they have easy access to if emulation is a problem? Also, what's the ruling on GBA, can we chuck that in too?
I would, but I can only do emulation on my laptop and don't really want to sit here playing games on it anymore. I'm only gaming on the PS4 and Vita nowadays.
I've never tried it with GBA myself, but afaik it's one of the most hassle free for emulation, even on the lowliest handheld devices, so a Windows 7 PC should breeze it.
Also, back-up choices should be readied in case your retrobuddy is already familiar with the selection. With so much to choose from, we should probably liaise a bit to avoid choosing games that have been owned/played to death.
SNES9X - that still the leader?
Stella for 2600 (though I have a Harmony cart to play any ROM on the real hardware)
NESTER for NES - that still top dog?
Is there one called MESS that is multi-console? What about GBA, MD and SMS?
I think I only have the MD, Master System and SNES emulators. MAME doesn't seem to be working on this computer anymore. I could give NES stuff a go too, if I can get an emu to work.
We pick games we like that your partner hasn't played?
So we gotta chat in here and decipher what that person has missed out on that we think is a must play classic?
Also we gotta pick something to their tatses? This is meant to be fun afterall not torturous. I wouldn't what to be forced to play a RTS or MMO (I know they don't exist on these systems) for example.
Yep, pretty much - although not necessarily a 'must play classic', it could be something you're fond of that may or may not be outstanding (*cough, Red Zone*). I've got an almost finished shortlist of three for Eric - if he knows them well (or can't access them) I'll think of something else.
For example, I would've picked Story of Thor for you - you've not played much of it, you like similar titles in the genre and two hours would be long enough to form a decent opinion on it (a first time playthrough is around 8hrs 30mins in total iirc).
I don't mind how we do it. It's probably best to have a shortlist to avoid to-ing and fro-ing with "already played that" etc.
I wouldn't necessarily restrict myself to certain genres. It might be a good thing to discover something one wouldn't normally even look at. The issue some might find with stuff I pick will be that it may be considered content-light as I lean toward the arcade style of experience.
You are right about me and Chrono Trigger - but - maybe I should be occasionally trying stuff that's a bit out of my comfort zone.
