There's not a lot more information at the moment.

The long-awaited sequel to Codemasters' multi-discipline racer Grid has been confirmed via a teaser trailer, with more information promised to follow on August 8th - that's next week, calendar fans.

I must pick it up again.

It invented the rewind feature.

Focused much more on the actual racing action than the precision of the simulation a-la Forza/Gran Turismo.

The open wheelers where a bit wooly but if you ever liked a TOCA game it was pretty essential.

They need to overhaul the handling to gain my interest as I found it far too 'slippy and slidey.' This is a recognised technical term in racing circles.

Grid 1 was very good but Codies have been all over the place since then. I'm setting my expectations to 'shite' and I'll get it 2nd hand if it turns out to be any cop.

Hopefully they'll make the cars handle like track cars instead of rally cars this time.

I thought the original was good at the time without quite getting everything right. Codies since haven't really done much for me and their target audience has shifted even more in the gnarly direction.

Much as normally against it it needed the traction control to be on.. then it handled pretty PGR like. It certainly was an exciting racer and nearly always left you in the thick of the action as opposed to the Forza cruise to the front and lap on your own school of driving.

I really liked the first one, was one of the more exciting racing games I've played recently. Got quite intense in parts. Some of the handling was a bit tricky but tolerable I thought.

People seem quite sick of racers tbh. Odd time to launch GRiD2. And tricky time to be Codemasters.

I think now they've decided to just make racers they've decided to just throw stuff at us and see what sticks..

The F1 kart racer was the first signs that they don't know what's going to sell and dusting GRiD off after this time has a little whiff of desperation.

Obviously they can't just make DiRT games though..

The career mode spans three continents - with road racing, street racing and track racing the three different options.

Road racing and street racing?

Apart from that, it sounds like it's back to basics, which makes a lot of sense.

Doesn't bother me personally, I can take it or leave it. Bit surprising that only 5% use the in car view though. Wouldn't have thought they'd have been willing to lose 5% of sales either.

There is a depressing undercurrent to the use of game play statistics like that as well, cutting less popular features is only going to make games more homogenised than they already are.

Can't see the point of incar view. Â All it does is hide 40% of the track, and is only realistic if you normally drive from the back seat of a car.

Rather than setting different standards, how about they try to achieve their old standards?

Precisely why I never use it. Bumper cam for me every time, well, except for Hot Pursuit. I find the chase cam easier for that.

Racing sequel Grid 2 will thunder onto PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the UK on 31st May, publisher Codemasters has announced.

The game will have two special editions. The first is available to all who pre-order the game, and comes with as yet unspecified free DLC.

Then there's the GAME-exclusive Grid 2: Brands Hatch Edition, available for those who pre-order there (at GAME, not Brands Hatch). That includes the McLaren Racing Pack (the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Special Edition, plus two new routes around the Brands Hatch GP circuit) and the Head Start Pack (the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT, plus other in-game discounts).

Grid 2 introduces a new system dubbed LiveRoutes, which dynamically changes the track during races. This optional feature alters the road layout between laps and is designed to keep the players on their toes.

They've had a lot of problems getting hold of liscenses for this game.Â They couldn't afford as many as the original GRID... hope that doesn't impact too much on the game.

I hope they can pull it out the bag, if you're going to ditch all your other projects and concentrate solely on racers then you better be delivering good ones.
