After an absolute deluge, I finally start to feel like I have my handle on the games released this year.

FFXVI is down, as close to 100% as I could, and now I'm staring down Pikmin 4.

Zelda, third dungeon, is looming in the background.

Kirby from February is asking where I went and what I did.

I cleared FF to try and get some Starfield space, which I plan on dedicating September to (as long as it is good).

October is going to get wiped out with the wombo combo of Mario and MGS collection.

I'll probably manage the 25 hours of Mario RPG no issue, so that's fine.

But that leaves the "what else?" I'm determined to see Zelda out, so that will likely dominate my free time. Similarly, clearing FFXVI gave me time for SF6 last night and I got thoroughly rinsed, so I want to invest hours.

That leads to the thread point. What gets sacrificed? I've made my peace with the following going unless one is GOTY material -

    Armoured Core (quell surprise)
    Spider-Man 2
Diablo 4 (sleep soundly my child)
Cod - I do like doing a campaign but that's 3 years I'm out and maybe it drops on Gamepass soon.
Alan Wake 2 - this one sucks.
    Mortal Kombat 1 - ditto

So, what's getting sacrificed attention altae for +2 power next turn?

I have to question whether I want to spend £70 on Spider-Man 2 when it’s literally gonna be a slightly jazzed up version of two games I’ve already played. Think I gotta catch up on the pile o’ shame first - and I don’t mean like the complete pile o’ shame that’s never realistically getting finished, I mean the actual A-list core pile o’ shame which is worse than it’s ever been.

  • Zelda was supposed to be for July, while new releases were quiet, but I've not got far at all. Perhaps it can be my Christmas game instead. But that means FFXVI and Baldur's Gate 3 won't get a look in now.

I'm not fussed about Starfield or Spiderman, so no problems skipping those.

I'm already playing Armored Core, so that's fine. And Sea of Stars is next. Hopefully I'll get a shot at Lords of the Fallen, Alone in the Dark and Alan Wake for review. It would be good to squeeze Mario in somewhere too.

And in case it went unnoticed, Alan Wake has been pushed back 10 days due to all the congestion in October.
  • Zelda is about four games in one. I'm taking a break from it and should have Tunic done in a week, tops.
    Spoiler:

TOTK and Advance Wars have stolen my time this year. Haven't touched FFXVI and Resi 4 since their launch days.

I reckon almost any new games are worth skipping for now. No time.

No Baldur’s Gate 3 Reg? I don’t think I’ve played a turn based RPG since SNES days, absolutely love BG3 the little I’ve played it.
    Things can only get better.

I need to finish FFXVI, do Blasphemous 2 to keep moot off my back, play more DoS to work out if I'll like BG3, finish Spidey to work out if I'll like Spidey 2, try Sekiro again, play the mass effect trilogy, try some more Sifu, crack on with Quarry and Medan 2, try Death Stranding, Tchia and Little Nightmares 2, get through Venba, try broforce and those two other pixel side-ons, and then Pentiment and Inscription.

And then Alan Wake Remastered before the sequel obvs.

And the maybe Mario given I now have a switch. And I fancy Dredge.

So yeah probably 90% of that won't happen, so I should skip lots happily, but my wallet will end up getting pumped somehow anyway.
  • Once again I have let Other Games come out and take me away from my yakuza backlog, with more yaks coming. Good problem to have though.
  • There will always be More Yak.
  • @muzzy which other two pixel side-ons?

  • Starfield and MK1 will take up a lot of time for me.
Not really all that fussed about much else though.
Although I'll keep this ME2 100% run I'm on going.

My mindset has shifted a bit over the years, I'm not too fussed about clearing games now. As long as I have enough across a range of genres to occupy the time I want to spend gaming I'm happy enough.
  • I've thought for a while that Spider-Man 2 would be the game to make me upgrade to a PS5 but it's not doing it for me. So that's one I'm passing on for now. I'm more interested in making sure the PC is up to snuff to play Starfield.

Because it’s one of the only good ones.

    Spider-Man 2 - eh.
Diablo 4 - lol, Blizzard shit
Cod - weird, jingoistic war porn.
Alan Wake 2 - a Remedy game, ergo shit.
Mortal Kombat 1 - ugly shit.

  • Starfield is getting me very close to buying an actual door stop and picking the series x up off its current position of holding open the dining room door and getting it plugged back in. The idea of 8 months of missed updates and trying to find the power cable are the only things holding me back. That and I haven’t enjoyed any of their other big name games but this does at least look like MS have put their foot down on throwing it out the door and it may function in a solid manner.

Spider2 may get nudged to Christmas game. I love the feel of them, the movement and the combat, but unless there’s a big twist and they all end up on their hols in say San Fran, or Paris or Dubai or anywhere else other than NY then I’m struggling to get excited. Including Queens doesn’t really count.

Mario. Hate the art style. Haven’t enjoyed Zelda x Mechano but Pikmin 4 has been a delight so I’ll probably buy, think it’s amazing for two sessions and then question whether I actually enjoy Nintendo games that much anymore.

I enjoyed the Spacey COD campaign and have always thought I’d keep getting them in a sale just for the SP but I played the one after that, hated it and have them never been able to get over all the other shit that come with this franchise.

I’m glad Remedy have moved AW2 but it still doesn’t mean I’ll get it at launch. Never played the original for more than ten mins but who knows? Maybe if it reviews well?
  • Trouble with BG is if you are time poor it's BG or like 4 other games.

Personally I read 20 hours for the first section and totally lost interest. No way I'll see that through regardless of how good it is.

I'd buy more games if it weren't for that damnable FF14.
  • I'd get Alan Wake 2 if they were releasing a disc version but biying big games digitally has never sat right with me. Hopefully there's a limited run version or something at some point.
