It just came back to me this morning - I remember this game being absolutely brilliant, and squeezing all sorts of ingenius gameplay out of a Gameboy Colour:
I sold my copy on ebay just a few weeks ago. Great game but I couldn't see me playing through it ever again. Didn't it have sampled speech for the comms conversations? I could be thinking of Perfect Dark GBC.

Slightly off-topic, but anyone seen the MGS collection of tees at Uniqlo right now? Got myself a Snake/Meryl top for £15 and there's plenty of others.Â
I remember having to choose between Metal Gear and Perfect Dark for my game Boy. Plumped for the latter, it was a decent wee title. Also had a rumble function on the cartridge, which I'd never seen before, or since actually.
Edit: Also PD was the one with the sampled speech, hearing my Gameboy Colour produce (semi) understandable human voices blew my 12 year old mind at the time.
I loved that game! me and my brother used to play multiplayer via the cable too, which was genius. basically you had to collect stuff before the other but the field of vision still applied, so they wouldn't appear on your screen till you faced them.
I do remember getting stuck on the second play-through as i couldn't find a 4th pillar to put C4 on. or something. I think its about time to get this out..
@Dejure: looks bloody awesome! definitely the best one they do.
I never managed to play this Metal Gear. I remember having a small go on a friends upon release, but didn't own the GBC myself. Sigh, any way to play it without the ebay route?
I'm immensely disappointed by those t-shirts, too must text, over-sized prints. It's not hard, just take some of Yoji Shinkawa's art and print them on a high-quality t-shirt. These guys would do a fine job - http://www.spunky.co.uk/
