Age has seen from acquired taste to pretty much only buying and playing what I know I will definitely like. As in, no risks; if ever. At this stage in my gaming career I know the types of games that will interest me. For example, I know Tomb Raider is a great game,I know people are really loving it. I knew this, and yet even though I knew I probably wouldn't get on with it I bought it at Christmas in the spur of the moment.Played about 5 hours and haven't touched it since.
I know it's a great game, both commercially and critically, but it's not for me. So yes, at this stage I know what I like, and I stick to it.
Safe, I know, but cost efficient. -

Wait, except that one time I bought Ni No Kuni on PS3 for £6, which I booted up once to look at the prettiness. Similar to Haak above, I've stopped trying to like things I probably won't, but this was a big problem for me for years. At one point I thought I should be playing everything Edge gave 8 or above. -
Exactly. I used to see games scoring high and think: "Surely I'll like that?" - This went on for over a decade. I know now what I like so tend to stick with it. Unfortunately there is an inherent risk to this, as it's likely I'll miss out on some great games by being stubborn.
For example, if it weren't for EDGE I would have never played Ikaruga, Super Monkey Ball or Tony Hawks Pro. Games that are arguably fantastic in hindsight, but unlikely candidates for my wallet nowadays. -

There's a thriving economy of people buying stuff in Steam sales or multiple bundles and selling the keys off on sites like g2a. The temptation is always there 24/7.

This sounds like a good idea if you live in the Philipines. Not sure the economics work out in the UK.
