I'm playing via Wii / WiiU emulator, 8 quid I think.
So far so good. The controls aren't as good as the sublime N64 pad but it's workable. Graphics are surprisingly good. Plenty of jaggies and low res textures but it doesn't get in the way of the game.
I remember playing it on the N64. Solid platformer, but it lost me with the overwhelming amount of stuff to do and multiple characters with multiple skill-sets by about the mid point and I never went back to it. A Rare case of over-ambition in a game. Imo Banjo Kazooie did it better and with considerably more charm.
Yeah it's definitely worse than BK. It's a collectathon with loads of backtracking and all the character switching does get tiring.
I may grow bored of it quickly but for now it's fun as well as nostalgic.
My 7 year old has now taken over and she's enjoying it. I will put MK8 on soon though.

Downloaded it. A rare (b'dum) time when the original is better - mapping c controls to the right stick is messy. Particularly when they're used for non-camera things.
Absolutely loving it so far, just not sure why. I avoided it back in the day because a) I heard it was a giant collect-a-thon and b) IIRC I already had an Expansion Pak and couldn't find a copy without.
I've just unlocked the third Kong. Not sure if I'll complete it, but I managed to pull a "just five more minutes... HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN AN HOUR" tonight, which I'm taking as a good sign.

Yeah the C-stick is v awkward. But I am ploughing on and enjoying it. Lots of cut scenes, not sure I like that much but that was the fashion of the day I guess.
I've not had a problem with the right-stick-as-C-buttons situation yet.
My main problem is remembering all the special moves for the various Kongs. I quite frequently bust out an instrument when I meant to throw an orange, etc.

Rogue Squadron higher res, plenty of reason to get one.
